Reference Standard CL3115

Hello Subscriber

The today's topic is calibration. All measurement equipment used for production and verification needs to be recalibrated regularly.
The decision for the recalibration period is not with the equipment manufacturer. It's defined by the local National Metrological Institute or the regulatory body.
We as manufacturer can only give a recommendation based on our historical drift values.
What happens when the calibration report shows that the equipment is out of range?
a) You can send the equipment back to the manufacturer for a readjustment.
b) You have the calibration report, so you know the equipment error. By doing some maths, you can recalculate the real error based on your equipment error. This solution is in use even in some metrological institutes with low budget (no joke). The possibility for human error is high, so I really can't recommend this.
c) You can do the readjustment together with your local calibration laboratory by yourself. All modern CLOU meter test equipment offers this cost-saving solution.

For my personal interest, when do you have recalibrated your private multimeter? Most likely never, but keep in mind that you have to maintain the given recalibration periods for all your laboratory equipment. Reference standards are only a part of it.

The difference between adjustment and calibration

Calibration means the comparison of a unit under test with test equipment with higher accuracy.

Is there a Lifetime Calibration?

Electronic energy meters are adjusted for life-time. A recalibration has to be done by country rules and regulations.
