Potato Chips

Hello Subscriber

We are still on holiday, so the topic for this week is chip shortage. I personally can not feel it, our supermarket still has a lot. In worst case I can buy potatoes...

Nevertheless, we have a global semiconductor chip shortage. Many home-appliance and car manufacturers have to throttle their production. The most recent examples are Volkswagen and Audi (Germany).
Where does it come from?
You can read an interesting Bloomberg article though it's blur in the conclusion. It's clear that due to COVID-19 the sales rates for electronic home products are still increasing.
With a given increase rate of 5.4% the lead time for certain measurement chips has increased from 12 weeks to 22 weeks. This has a significant impact on the delivery time for electronic energy meters.
Luckily we have an efficient supply chain management for the running orders, but we have to consider longer lead times for the near future.

Anyway, I hope you have chips enough. We'll be back after our Labour Day holidays, which means basically tomorrow, 06.05.2021.

Thank you for your interest and stay safe,
