You can use different measures to manage your power grid. Beside of well planned tariff structures for domestic consumers you can also implement maximum demand measurement & billing for industrial customers.

Since I've already seen requests for maximum demand on single phase meters I really wonder which utility is billing on this function for domestic use. I haven't seen any, but your feedback is welcome.
