Pairing of a User Interface Unit with a Meter

A user interface unit (UIU) is a remote access terminal for STS prepayment meters. The device is placed inside the user's premises, while the energy meter is mounted outside and mostly not direct accessible. Some meter manufacturers are using the term customer interface unit (CIU). The functions are the same.

The main purpose is to charge the meter with credit. By various short-codes, it's possible to do many kinds of queries for meter status and consumption. The short codes are not unified, so refer to your user manual for operation.

UIUs are paired with the energy meter when leaving our factory. Depending on the utility order, CLOU interface units are communicating with the meter by radio frequency (RF), power line (PLC) or by wired RS-485.

If the UIU is not communicating with the energy meter, you can pair it again by typing 1593570 and the 11 or 13 digit meter number, then press the enter key (red or blue). The meter number is printed on the meter and on your customer card, which you use to buy credit.
After successful pairing, the display will show OK.
Note: This is only working for CLOU energy meters.

There can also be other reasons for a communication fail. If the UIU is connected by power line and you are disconnected, batteries need to be inserted in the UIU to recharge the meter or query the status. If this meter is in tamper mode, a recharge is impossible before clearing the tamper.

    1. You can find the meter number next to the CLOU logo, below the bar-code. It has 11 digits, starting with 54.

  1. My key pad got spoiled and I replace it with another one and I already linked it, and I have recharge the meter but the meter did not supply light out and a friend of mine told me is because I opened the glass when linking it
Please help with the code to solve the problem please

    1. Seems that your meter is in tamper mode. Only your local energy provider can generate a clear tamper token (code) for you.

  2. Can distance between the UIU and the Energy meter affect communication between the two devices?

    1. Sure, the distance between meter and UIU has some effect on communication. Typically, a range < 200 m should be fine.

  3. My Hexing CiU got spoiled and I acquired an old used one can I pair it with my meter and how since they are of the same make

    1. This should be possible, but we don't have the pairing procedure for Hexing meters with their CIUs.

  4. I enter my token code directly from the box without UIU, is there any possibility that is going to work, I mean supply light

    1. You need to look on the display after entering the token. Maybe the token was already used, wasn't entered complete, is expired or not issued for your meter. It can also be, that the meter is in tamper-mode. Then you see a ‘raised hand' symbol. If you are sure you made nothing wrong, you need to report to your power company.

  5. Can I use the uiu of my neighbour to load my token both of us are using the same type of meter but my UIU got spoiled

    1. If it's a CLOU user interface unit (UIU) for the same meter type and provided by the same power company, it will match.

    1. Most utilities keep the meter serial number as part of the account number. The meter serial number is printed on your meter. You can also find it on the user card. You can check the whole account number only with your power company.
